Dear Dermoscopists,

We are pleased to introduce you to the project “e-Learning Short Courses”, with the aim to facilitate the fast comprehension of new dermoscopic concepts. This material is designed to be practical and help you in your daily routine.
Progressively, a number of eLearning Short Courses will be available in open-access to the International Dermoscopy Society (IDS) members on the web with a self-evaluation test. We hope that this will be a great time for you!

Presentation

The IDS e-Learning Short Courses are delivered by renowned international specialists. They are addressed to doctors and medical professionals, both senior and undergraduates.
They are available in English, Spanish, Italian and German.

The European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) validates the courses. The EACCME was set up by the UEMS for the purpose of ensuring the international mutual recognition of quality assessments of CME-CPD activities organised all over the world for the benefit of European doctors.

Each of these multimedia courses is divided into a series of pre-recorded video lessons, 5 to 10 minutes each, illustrated with descriptive synchronized slides. Further complementary materials include the Abstract and the References.

Each course includes a self-evaluation exam. You must pass the exam in order to obtain a Credit Certificate. Should you fail the exam, there is still one more chance to take a second one and pass the course.
This course is in form of an unrestricted educational grant.

How to subscribe

In order to participate in any of the courses, you must be previously subscribed in the system. In order to do this, just select 'Subscribe' on the menu and the system will ask you if you are already subscribed for any of the courses. If your answer is “no”, then the menu will lead you to the subscription form. Please fill in the form in order to obtain your access codes (email and password).

Please note that you must only fill in this form once, just the first time that you subscribe for your first course (thus you will be already in the system). Once subscribed, your codes (user name and password) will let you log into any of the e-Learning short courses.

How to log into a new course

You must simply select one of the courses (by clicking on 'Subscribe'). Then the process will be initiated by asking: Not subscribed? Since this will not be your first course, your answer must be “yes”. Then just enter your user name –your email- and password by clicking on 'Login'.

How to access 'My Classroom'

Once subscribed, you may access your private area: 'My Classroom'. Once there, you will view all the information on the courses you are subscribed for. You can access them, follow the lessons and complete the exams. You can also download your Certificate. Your academic records will be saved in 'My Classroom', so you know which courses you have taken.
You can also change any personal details from there, through your profile.

After quitting the web site, you can go back to 'My Classroom' by clicking on 'Log into My Classroom' and simply entering your user name and password.

How to take the course

Each course focuses on a topic, which is divided into several lessons. These are pre-recorded video lessons given by the professor and illustrated with descriptive PowerPoint slides, fully synchronized with the video.
In addition, you will find an abstract of the course, references recommended by the professor and a self-evaluation exam with practical questions about the content.
If you successfully answer the questions (minimum 70% of correct answers), you will be able to download your Credit Certificate.

How to take the exam

Each exam consists of multiple-choice questions. Please tick only one of the possible answers. You must answer all the questions.
There is no need to answer all the questions at once. You may choose to 'save' the uncompleted exam and go back later. Feel free to do that as many times as you need. You can retrieve the incomplete exam through the “Exam” section, where you will find the latest version you saved.
Once you 'send' the exam, you will no longer be able to change your answers. You will immediately find out whether you passed or failed, and you may check your choices against the right answers and the professor's comments.
We offer two opportunities to pass the exam. Should you fail the first exam, because you did not reach the 70% minimum of correct answers, there is still one more chance to take a second test and pass the course.

Credit certificate

You must pass the exam in order to obtain the Credit certificate. Once you have passed, you may download your Certificate, which will also be available in your 'Classroom'.

Technical software and hardware requirements

We recommend Internet Explorer 8.x or later versions, Mozilla Firefox, or Chrome.

Some smart devices open the videos to full screen, making it impossible to simultaneously display the synched-up slides. This is due to the internal setup of the device, and has nothing to do with our web site.

Instructions

To inscribe

To participate in a course you must be previously subscribed, completing the form to get your Access codes. These (E-mail and password) are valid to access any of the courses on the Web page.
To inscribe in a new course, you have to select it and introduce again your user name and password in the Inscription Menu.
If after 8 months following the date of the inscription you have not participated in the course, your Access codes (E-mail and password) will expire automatically and you will have to re-inscribe to the course.

To participate in the courses

Once subscribed and inscribed, you will have available a personal page or student's Classroom. The Classroom contains the information on the courses to which you are subscribed. From here you can complete the lessons and questionnaires in sequence.
Each course is a session on a theme, comprising three modules. Each of these is accompanied by a video synchronized with descriptive PowerPoint slides. 
In addition, you will find an Abstract of the course (pdf document) and a self-evaluation questionnaire with practical questions about the content.
Having successfully answered all the questions of the three modules (with a maximum of 2 fails), you will be able to download an accreditation Diploma of the course.

To complete the questionnaires

Each questionnaire consists in a variable number of multiple choice questions. For each question you must mark only one of the possible answers. You must answer all the questions. If necessary, you can 'save' the uncompleted questionnaire and return to complete it at a later date, as many times as you like. You can retrieve the incomplete questionnaire in your course page, with the completed and outstanding questions just as you saved it. Once you have sent the questionnaire, you are not permitted to do any correction to your answers. In case you have not pass the test, you can download a PDF file with author's commentaries to the questions and try it again. You must pass the test to obtain the Diploma with credits.

European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education

The “Dermoscopic diagnosis of Actinic Keratosis and Squamous Cell Carcinoma”, made available on http://dermoscopy-ids-courses.com/elearning.php and organized by International Dermoscopy Society (IDS) and Permanyer, is awarded 1 European CME credits (ECMEC's).

In the student's page, you will be able to see the courses that you are inscribed to, the completed courses, and the questionnaires you have filled in.
